Various government initiated anti-corruption efforts in New York
City have given rise to the need for independent private monitors
to oversee and report back about the ongoing actions of private
companies operating in key industries. In New York City and elsewhere,
government agencies rely on the Code of Ethics of the International
Association of Independent Private Sector Inspectors General (IAISPIG),
a Code that was developed by a working group led by Getnick &
Getnick. Our managing partner currently chairs the IAIPSIG. We
have undertaken numerous such independent monitoring engagements
for New York City agencies during the past six years.
In 2001, for example, we were appointed by the New York City
administration as the Project Integrity Compliance Monitor for
one of the four construction companies responsible for the World
Trade Center disaster site clean-up, an engagement in which we
were tasked with the prevention and detection of any fraudulent,
wasteful, and/or abusive practices by the construction company
and its more than thirty subcontractors and suppliers.
